Meet the island family behind Cheeky Heifer Farms! This family-owned farm just outside of beautiful Providence Bay is operated by Mike and Angela Johnston. From time to time their two younger sons, Parker and Spencer, will help out with the business, sometimes not so enthusiastically! 🙂
Cheeky Heifer values providing local businesses with their naturally-raised meat products, and all animals are raised without the use of antibiotics or hormones. They also have farm-fresh eggs that can be bought at their farm.Angela grew up on a century farm outside Providence Bay.
In 2011, Mike and Angela, with their 6 month old son, Spencer moved back to Manitoulin Island and purchased the farm next door to her family farm. Since then, they have been building their family (Parker arrived in 2013), their cattle herd and their sheep flock.
Cheeky Heifer offers a variety of beef products including; grass-fed ground beef, pure beef patties, “Haw” burger patties, stew beef, and grain-finished steaks and roasts. Their lamb products include; chops, leg roasts, ground, and stewed lamb. Their family’s favourite is the “Haw” burgers, which is a recipe that Angela’s mom used in their household.
We are proud to support Cheeky Heifer – their values are very much in line with ours, as they provide their local community the opportunity to eat well, with meat products raised/grown in a sustainable way.
