When COVID-19 hit, we quickly re-purposed Manitoulin Marketplace (our online shop that was previously aimed at ‘Bringing Manitoulin to the Mainland‘) to offer online grocery ordering for islanders. The goal was to allow people to shop from the comfort of their homes and pick up in-store, or choose to have their order safely delivered to their homes around the island.
Since the online grocery orders launched, we have been busy packing orders and delivering all over the island. As of today, we’ve received, picked, packed & delivered 350 online orders (not including call-in and email orders!) since the re-vamped site launched mid-March. We are so grateful for the support of our community, and are so happy we are able to continue to support local farmers and provide you all with fresh, nutritious, local food delivered to your doorsteps.
We are, however, currently down to a team of 3 (Vanessa, Bobbie & Aline) and are hustling to keep things flowing smoothly with this new business model, so we appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to adapt to this new reality we’re all in. We are trying to accommodate everyone as best we can, however online orders are much more efficient for us to manage, and we are trying to make the website as easy as possible to navigate, to encourage customers to shop online rather than emailing or calling orders in, if possible. We do pack online orders first, before filling email or call-in orders, as we have to properly manage inventory numbers, so ordering online is the best way to ensure you get the items you want.
We put together a little tutorial to help walk you through the site – if you’re having trouble finding anything please reach out. We can even create a cart for you on your first order and help get you set up for future orders!
Navigating the Site
When you arrive on the homepage of Manitoulin Marketplace, you will see various categories across the top of the page. You can click into any category to browse for items, or you can use the Search feature at the top of the page to type in the name of the product you are looking for (see below for more info on searching the site).
We’re doing our best to keep inventory updated, so if something is showing as out of stock, it likely is! Keep checking back though, as we get new orders weekly. 🙂
Searching the Site
If you aren’t finding what you’re looking for by browsing, you can click on the Search button at the very top of the page – a search bar will pop up, and you can search based on keywords or by brand. Try using specific or unique words (e.g. pork instead of meat) if you’re having trouble searching.
Adding Items To Your Cart
Once you’ve added an item to your cart, you can proceed to checkout, or you can continue shopping and add more items. This is the screen you’ll see once you’ve added an item to your cart:
Editing Your Cart/Removing Items
Once you click on ‘View or edit your cart’, you’ll see this screen:
When you’re ready to check out, you can choose to complete your purchase as a guest (without creating an account for Manitoulin Marketplace), or you can create an account so your order, contact and payment information will be saved for the next time. You can check out either using PayPal (click on the yellow PayPal Checkout button), or you can click the blue ‘Check Out’ button to simply enter your credit card number. If you don’t want to pay using either of these options when you are shopping online, please contact us to discuss other options.
We are currently offering two pick-up windows every day Tuesday – Friday, from 12-12:30 pm or 4:30-5 pm. If you choose pick-up next business day, your order will be ready the next operating day after you place your order (no need to wait for a notice, just show up to pick-up). When you arrive at the store during the specified pick-up window, the front door will be unlocked and your order will be waiting on a table just inside the door in a bag/box with your name on it.
We are offering FREE next day delivery within Little Current (deliveries occur every day Tuesday – Friday), so you can expect your order to be dropped off on your doorstep the next operating day after your order has been placed. We typically do the in town deliveries in the late afternoon, and you will receive an email (saying your order has been completed) to let you know your order has been dropped off.
We are also offering delivery around the island, based on the following schedule. Please place your orders by the night before to have your order delivered based on this schedule:
